II.  HISTORY

SANCHEZ Arango first used ... title FNDTA in apparent effort to recruit supporters when he turned against Castro in early 1960.  Full title used ... consistently since SANCHEZ Arango left ... effective operations.  SANCHEZ Arango continued ... to claim contacts with Escambray guerrillas. ... affiliations with Caribbean Legion, SANCHEZ Arango maintained friendly relations with Latin American leaders, BETANCOURT of Venezuela, YDIGORAS of Guatemala, and MUNOZ Marin of Puerto Rico) who assisted him previously.


III.  CURRENT STATUS

... in exile; publishes periodical "AAA ... in New York. SANCHEZ Arango, despite strong personality traits which offend some colleagues, was considered capable of aligning FNDTA with any movement which might satisfy his personal ambitions; still to be reckoned with especially in terms of securing assistance from Caribbean Leaders.  Initially associated himself with GARCERAN's bid. He become head of exile government; attended spring 1962 meeting with YDIGORAS to promote this concept; apparently now cool toward...
