BOMBINGS DADE COUNTY

FROM: Summary of Investigation into the Bombings which occurred between the period of May 29, 1967, through June 16, 1967

The following series of bombings took place between the period of May 29, 1967, through June 16, 1967:

1. May 29, 1967 - Unexploded bomb found at Treasure House South, 7501 East Treasure Drive, North Bay Village, in the driveway directly below the apartment of IRVING "Mickey" ZION.

2.  May 31, 1967 - Bombing of Epicure Market, 1656 Alton Road; owner LEONARD THAL.

3. June 1, 1967 - Bombing of Rand Cleaners, 17612 Collins Avenue, owner JACK RAND.

4. June 3, 1967 - Bombing of Automobile which is owned by the wife of IRVING "Mickey" ZION, 7501 East Treasure Drive, North Bay Village.

5. June 16, 1967 - Bombing of ALFIES, 1664 Alton Road; owner ALFRED MART.

On June 10, 1967, the following locations were searched reference to Illegal Possession of Explosives in an attempt to locate a source of the M-1 corrosive time delays which were used in several of the above bombings:

1. 1417 West Flagler Street, residence of JUAN FERNANDEZ
Subject consented to allow this search; search was made with negative results.

2. 1311 N.W. 10th Avenue, residence of JUAN DEL POZO.
Subject consented to allow this search; search was made with negative results.

3. 402 S.W. 2nd Street, residence of JULIO AGUILA.
Subject consented to allow this search; search was made with negative results.

4. 2368 S.W. 12th Street, residence of RODOLFO MASFERRER (deceased), widow TERESA BETANCOURT MASFERRER refused to consent to search and asked investigators to leave and not come back unless in possession of a search warrant.  Investigators had previously been admitted to residence by her daughter TAMARA MASFERRER who stated she had no objection to the search.  RODOLFO MASFERRER was ROLANDO MASFERRER's brother, and this was the place he used to stay during his trips to Miami.  Investigators left immediately after being asked.

5. 3500 N.W. 9th Terrace, Apartment 2, residence of LUIS TORRES.  Subject consented to allow this search; search was made with negative results.

6. 3320 N.W. 95th Street, residence of ARMANDO and SARAH FERNANDEZ.  Subject consented to allow this search; search was made and an unused, empty B.A.R. magazine was found; search was otherwise negative.

7. 2907 Bridgeport Avenue, residence of VICTOR PEREZ.  Subject consented to allow search; search was made with negative results.  PEREZ was repairing a small boat; also had several "ALPHA 66" bonds in the trunk of his car.

8. Stakeout of Farm advised no new activity.  Search of same postponed until a more appropriate time.

The search of these locations was conducted by Lieutenant Fred Mowry, Public Safety Department Arson Squad; Agent Robert W. Hoelscher, Criminal Intelligence Section; and Officer Cesar Camacho, on temporary assignment to the Criminal Intelligence Section.

Lieutenant F. Mowry is presently attempting to locate the source of the two Pentolite Trojan primers which were recovered from the driveway in front of the Treasure House South apartments which was directly below the apartment of IRVING "Mickey" ZION on May 29, 1967.  Attached to the two primers was a M-1 corrosive time delay.  This same delay was also used in the bombing of the Epicure Market on May 31, 1967, an Alfies on June 16, 1967.

Investigation by Lieutenant F. Mowry has determined that six firms locally have received shipments of the Trojan primers.  They are the following:
 

1.  Sales ended July, 1965 to:
Van der Molin Florida Disposal Company, Key West, Florida
2.  July, 1964 sales to Fort Myers Construction Company of Naples, Florida
3. Continuing sales to: Gulf Oil Corporation of Brooksville, Florida
4. Current sales to: Lehigh Portland Cement of Hialeah, Florida
5. 1964 sales to: Alonzo Cothron of Islamorada, Florida
6. 1964 sales to: D.R. Gaines Construction Company of Marathon, Florida

Investigation continues.
